Thank you for your interest in "PROGRAM FOR A SMALL PLANET"
version 3.2. We have greatly enhanced the previous version to
include many of your recommendations concerning modern
nutritional trends. We calculate as before usable protein
amounts per the best selling "DIET FOR A SMALL PLANET" by
Frances Moore Lappe. We have also added calculations of
total calories, sodium, cholesterol and polyunsaturated/
saturated fat. Food group information is also displayed and
this may be helpful if you are using an "exchange"
nutritional system. Finally some exercise data is also
displayed to help you find ways to use your calories in an
enjoyable manner.
We use the the "PROGRAM FOR A SMALL PLANET" protein methods
in order to help to get a handle on two situations: Where
you want to make sure you are getting enough protein under
certain restrictions (salt, cholesterol, or fat), and the
reverse situation to help you from eating to much of it.
You can find the "no red meat" or "good meat" combinations
and their protein amounts. You can find low-cholesterol, low
salt, and low calorie, and low fat combinations. Any of
these trends in modern diet can be easily and properly
implemented by you with this program so that you do not get
to little protein and conversely do not consume to much
protein which may turn to fat. As you may be aware eating to
much protein is prevalent in Western Society even with less
meat in the diet. Detailed information on protein excess is
in the program.
Almost all national traditional dishes have evolved naturally
over long periods of time into "complementary" type food
dishes which are consistent with this program: in Latin
America rice or tortillas and beans, in Asia soy foods and
rice, and in Japan fish and rice. With the program you will
be able to create varied and delicious new combinations in a
matter of minutes instead of centuries!
The process involved in the program is for you to specify
some starting food, lets say turkey. Then the program will
list all the combinations (up to three foods) which yield
a certain minimum level of efficiency in balancing key amino
acids among the foods. Total usable grams of protein,
calories, sodium, cholesterol are kept track for each
combination for you to compare and choose. Polyunsaturated
to saturated fat ratio is also displayed for the individual
foods. Our own efficiency measure for the combined protein
is also shown which indicates the degree to which the amino
acids of the foods combine. The program finds the
combinations on the basis of this efficiency measure. This
efficient use of foods may help in their digestibility and
how much of the combined food is used versus turned to fat.
The data is used to plan a meal properly. The combination
arrived at is for one average serving of each food. A table
in the program describes this average serving to you as to
type of food and amount. You then can prepare a meal for as
many servings as you desire by multiplying the quantities in
the table by the desired number of servings.
It should be noted that your daily total grams of protein,
calories, sodium, cholesterol, and fat required is something
which should be determined by you in conjunction with your
doctor. Some broad averages for daily requirements are shown
in the program but these must be adjusted for factors such as
stress, pregnancy, nursing, level of physical exertion, and
illness.
Minimum System Requirements are:
IBM PC or compatible computer. 100K of RAM internal memory.
PC-DOS or MS-DOS operating system, Version 2.0 or later.
The arced file includes the files: eatwell.exe and
readme}.txt.
To run the program enter "eatwell" at the Dos prompt for the
directory where you place the files. Menus will guide you
once the program is started.
This shareware is a demonstration module and you can examine,
copy, and distribute it. It only contains a small portion of
the total foods available in the full program. You may send
$18 U.S. (Wisconsin Residents add 5% sales tax); Non-U.S.
customers add $2.00 shipping and handling - you may send a
check in your currency for an equivalent amount of US
dollars. Mail to Strat-Tech, Inc., P.O. Box 1957, Milwaukee,
WI 53201, U.S.A. Thank you for your purchase and please stay
in touch!.
If you desire we can customize a program for you to screen
out or in foods by any combination of these factors: cost,
cost per gram, cholesterol, sodium, red-meat, calories, group
of food (dairy, seafood, legumes, meat, vegetable, grain,
nuts and seeds, flour, nutritional additive), grams of usable
protein. We can as well update the costs for your city or
country. The added fee to customize by any of the above
(except cost) is $200.
